At this time people are spending a considerable amount of time in self-isolation, but there are ways people of all ages and ability can keep active through a variety of exercises.

When it comes to physical activity, we know that our balance and muscle strength is crucial for allowing us to remain healthy and independent, and key to avoiding at-home injuries and falls. The UK chief medical officer’s guidelines recommend twice weekly strength and balance training for adults of all ages.

Yet, if we are all about to spend significantly more time indoors and being highly inactive for long periods of time, we run the risk of losing physical capability, known as ‘deconditioning’. A similar phenomenon is common when spending long periods of time in hospital. This is why being active while in isolation will help you maintain your ability to do everyday activities and reduce your risk of losing physical capabilities.

Fortunately, there are many ways we can all keep up our strength and balance exercises while remaining indoors, without the need for exercise equipment or even much space. These can include yoga and dancing which you can join in with on the LifeTime programme. There are many online resources too – here are some links to videos you can do at home. Keep moving, keep safe.

It’s Dementia Awareness Week and LifeTime are supporting this important event in style. There’s music from the Monday Music Group and the dance class are gliding round the floor and there are lots of members enjoying meeting up together, all proven ways to keep your mind fit and well. Keep well in later life with LifeTime and have some fun in the process!

The older residents of Thelwall show us they ‘re keen to keep active and healthy.  Over 20 people entered into the spirit at our new chair based exercise class held at All Saints Church on Monday afternoon.   Julie, our instructor, says that both men and women of all abilities joined this lively and fun group in a friendly and welcoming environment.  If you’re looking for that feel good factor then this may be the class for you, for more details please call LifeTime on 01925 246824.

 

Come dance with us members

Members take to the dance floor at our Come Dance With Us sessions and say it is a great way to keep fit, have fun and make new friends into the bargain.  Jan, our dance instructor is now running tea dances at Penketh, Croft and our Town Centre hub with a new class due to start this month in Hood Manor, Gt Sankey.  If you’ve always wanted to learn those popular ballroom and sequence dances then now’s your chance.  If you can dance already come and show us what you can do.   Check out our What’s On for more details or give us a call on 01925 246824
